Unlike busy Lofoten, the Vesteralen islands are much quiter. On many places I have a strong feeling of the end of the world. Beyond northern horizon of greyish sea there are only Spitsbergen (Svalbard) and the Arctic. Andenes, Bleik, Nykvag, Hovden, just to name a few remote places we saw. Highlight was the "Royal hike" called Dronningrutta leading from Sto over mountains to Nyksund. Originally a fishing village, today Nyksund is being brought back to life by a few enthusiastic artists. One of the places that I wan´t ever forget. Polar night lasts almost 3 months and photos of polar light from Nyksund are incredible.
